2010 Team Type 1/2 Training Camp & Beyond

Training Camp was once again amazing. The biggest difference was the amount of riders this season. On Team Type 2 alone, we added about 8 new riders, including another rider from Milwaukee, Jay DeCora. Jay managed to track me down on the Oak Leaf trail back home in full stalker style...asking me if I was Peter Cowley. But, we quickly made the connection between a face and a few emails Jay had sent to me about joining the team. I think he's going to make Milwaukee proud! He is a finisher of the Riverwest 24, a 24-hour criterium in the Riverwest neighborhood, and not too far from my place, with 214 mile completed in 24 hours straight! Congrats to Jay.

Another difference was the RAAM qualifying time trials for the Team Type 2 guys. While a few of us didn't participate because of injuries, the other guys proved they are going to be serious contenders to break that 6 day barrier. The weather didn't help much. It was cold when they started, but snowing at the end. It set the stage for training camp, where Stone Mountain got its share of 3 inches of snow and ice.

I did manage to get a short 10 mile ride in while I was there. I rode through the cold wind, but my biggest issue continued to be my back injury and casued me to park it for the duration. It's putting a huge dent in my early training. I've been able to do a handful of classes at Sprintzone (think Rocky style indoor training complete with plastic on the floor of Team Sports and a coach's voice that would make Burgess Meredith jealous!

The big news for me coming out of camp is that I was named the spokesman for Lantus and Team Type 2. I can't wait to see what that brings about!

Here We Go...

It's the end of 2009 and I thought I would begin to share my thoughts and experiences with anyone that might be interested. I will begin by archiving some of my experiences from our first year, as well as interject the latest news from the team and what I have going on as I train for 2010 and hit the road as an advocate of cycling and diabetes.
